Sarah Woodall

Sarah Woodall – publishing services manager

Sarah has been providing professional editorial and design services to publishers of books and magazines since 2005, and now takes on regular work for a variety of clients. Her decision to move into a publishing career was the logical extension of a lifelong interest in writing, pictures and the combination of both, on the printed page and the computer screen, and a lifelong fascination with the detection and prevention of errors. She trained with the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, of which she is now an Advanced Member, and the Publishing Training Centre.

In 1980, after graduating in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, Sarah took the University’s Computer Science Diploma and went on to have a successful career in the software industry, serving for twenty years as an engineer – seven of these working on prepress software for the Electronic Publishing division of Harlequin, which is now part of Global Graphics. Besides making her an unusually well-informed copy-editor for computing and mathematical subject matter, this software engineering background also gives her a deep technical understanding of modern computerised publishing processes.

Sarah’s leisure interests include drawing and digital art, and she has exhibited her work as part of Cambridge Open Studios. She is also the author of Memories of Times Past: Cambridge, which was published by Worth Press in 2007, and is currently working on a companion volume about Venice.

More information about Sarah can be found on her personal site.
